HARWICH & PARKESTON 2
SWAFFHAM 2
2nd February 2008

Fifth and sixth from bottom and only a point separating their endeavours so far this season, both teams took time to settle into the match. Stuart King drew a fine save from Wootten down to his left and Jimmy Chatters had his point blank shot charged down by Swaffham keeper Norris.

The deadlock was broken in the 30th minute, Ashley St John keeping his head when through on goal, to round Wootten and stroke the ball into an empty net. Harwich pursued the equaliser in the minutes before the interval and it duly arrived, Matt Carmichael taking full advantage of a mix up in the Swaffham defence to send a fierce shot past the outstretched keeper.

Harwich were the more creative side second half, but it was the visitors that regained the lead with a rapier offensive which culminated in Doherty unpicking the defence and firing from 18 yards low into the net. Wootten kept Harwich in touch with the Norfolk outfit with an amazing series of saves from a melee in the area the last of which sent the ball inches over the bar. The hosts were rewarded for their persistence in chasing the game 10 minutes from time, Scott Page beating Norris from close range.

Final minutes were fast and furious as both teams laid claim to all 3 points, but it finished honours even.
