HARWICH &
PARKESTON 1
LOWESTOFT 3
3 May 2008
Applauded onto the pitch FA Vase finalists Lowestoft found themselves in a fast and furious opening period. They duly opened the scoring in the 10th minute, Jamie Godbold rifling the ball into the net after Stock had flicked on from a long throw. Harwich struggled to turn their possession into meaningful chances as Lowestoft piled on the pressure, Poppy and Hunn both with shots that kept Wootten busy. Defending manfully for long periods it took until shortly before the interval to find a chink in the visitor’s back-line but inform Gant was quick to smother the threat that Townes presented.
Saunders doubled Lowestoft’s lead 10 minutes after the break, rising highest from a flighted freekick to squeeze the ball inside the upright. However Harwich were quick to reduce the deficit when Calver found space on the edge of the area and guided Barretts freekick past the outstretched keeper. Played at a frenetic pace shot stopper Wootten kept alive Harwich hopes of salvaging something from the game, saving from Stock’s spotkick, but Stock made amends with 15 minutes remaining, beating the offside trap and well placed shot securing all three points for the Suffolk side.
