HARWICH & PARKESTON 3
STANWAY ROVERS 1
1st August 2007
Harwich triumphed 3-1
against local Essex rivals, Stanway Rovers in an open and keenly contested
Harwich Charity Cup Final. Burnett was kept on his toes in the Stanway goal and
was at full stretch in the 15th minute to keep a Ritchie Meadows
effort out. It took an inspirational run by Lee Underwood in the 35th
to finally break the deadlock latching on to a pass, beating a static defence
and shot creeping under an advancing Burnett. Harwich controlled much of the
first-half but the score was drawn level just before the interval, a perfectly
placed corner found Dennis unmarked who made no mistake heading into the roof of
the net.
Encouraged by their goal, Stanway came into the match second half, and had their
chances to take the lead, ex Shrimper, Pete Johnson through on goal, had his lob
charged down by Wass. Harwich had to wait until the 78th minute to
reassert themselves, centre back Keiron Johnson connecting onto a Morley corner
to make it 2-1. The win was cemented in the last minute of full-time Calver
scorer of four goals in the last two matches, added to his tally rifling in a
header, again following a Morley corner.
