HARINGEY BOROUGH 1
HARWICH & PARKESTON 3
8th September 2007
For the second week running Robbie MAY started with some
line up that had seen off Ilford in the F.A. CUP
Harwich kicked off against Haringey Borough from the Molten Spartan league,
it was quite clear from the start that both midfield were trying to get the
upper hand in the first round of the F.A. Vase. It was end to end football,
both sides looked like scoring but it soon showed that Harwich were the
stronger side in midfield and started to control the game. It came as no
surprise when a well taken corner by Morley in 39th minute resulted in Lee
Matson slotting the ball in the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Harwich
kept the pressure on the home defence and on the stroke of half time a good
one two by Calver and Jimmy Chatters the latter putting in a great shot
for Harwich's second goal.
Second-half Harwich started where they had left off, with pressure on the home
defence but with no luck in putting a goal in the back of the net. The Harwich
pair of Morley and Bloss controlled and pressed forward all the time, it came
a bit of surprise in the 69th min that DUNCAN for Haringey broke through the
Harwich defence to score, it was the first time in the game that Harwich
defence were court napping up until then the Harwich defence had controlled
the Haringey forwards with Keiron Johnson and Lee Matson controlling the
Harwich back four. With Haringey looking for the draw they pushed forward and
put the defence and some pressure for the last 15 minutes of this game but the
Harwich defence held out well and on 90 minutes Lee Underwood won a great
tackle on the by-line and sent in a great pass for Martin Calver to slot home.
Final score Haringey 1 Harwich 3, putting Harwich through to the second round
away to St Margaretsbury on Saturday 22nd September, once again a good team
performance from Harwich
