HARWICH & PARKESTON 4

IPSWICH WANDERERS 1

14th August 2007

In monsoon conditions Harwich caught a young Wanderers team napping with a precision 1st minute delivery from new signing Steve Townes that found an unmarked Luke Jones at the back-post to nod in. Harwich pressure was unrelenting, Bloss was first to test Vandecar in the Ipswich goal with a drive from outside the box, Meadows rattled the post and Underwood had the keeper full stretch on the slippery surface to palm his effort away.
Despite the possession it took until early in the second half to add to the score-sheet, Underwood netting after a fierce Meadows shot Vandecar couldn’t clear. Two further goals in as many minutes from Calver made safe the three points for Harwich. In the final minutes Wanderers began to play with a little more self belief, Ronaldo Wrights’ floated effort in the strong wind had Wooton back pedalling but his effort fell wide. Wanderers were rewarded with a consolation goal with 10 minutes remaining, Lewis Driver slipping the ball past an outstretched Wooton.
