LONG MELFORD 0
HARWICH & PARKESTON 2
19th September 2007
This was the second time in Sept these teams had met, both times at Long
Melford and again Harwich came away with a very creditable win.
The 1st half was a very equal affair both sides trying to get the ball forward
way too quickly when a more composed form of football would have paid
dividends, Phil Taylor in the centre of midfield going snubbing out any
threat, Carl Daw the Long Melford forward was always going to be a threat and
the Harwich right back Dan Harrison kept him at bay throughout the game with
Dan putting in a solid performance, at half time the score was 0-0 with both
teams not really creating too much.
Phil Harrison made changes for the 2nd half moving Michael Hammond to the
right and bringing on Sam Eldridge up front, this gave Harwich a much better
shape with the wide two of Hammond and Reece Harris getting plenty of the ball
supplying the front two of Eldridge and Warren, after 14 minutes Harwich were
awarded a penalty after good work by the Harwich skipper Michael Hammond, Sam
Eldridge stepped up to take the penalty only to be foiled by the man of the
match the Long Melford keeper who made a fine save down to his left, the
keeper made three more good saves before Harwich got the breakthrough once
again Ollie Mann breaking through from midfield to finish well, Ollie went on
to score a carbon copy second goal giving Harwich a well deserved victory,
special mention must goes to the Harwich keeper Elliot Harrison and his back
four of Dan Harrison, Lee Peacock, Daryl Johnson and James King awesome
throughout. It was great to see a large contingent of the Harwich & Parkeston
committee including the Chairman Robbie May who went over to support the team.
