HARWICH &
PARKESTON 0
WALSHAM-LE-WILLOWS 2
25thAugust 2007
Played on a well overdue summer’s afternoon, this was the first ever competitive match between the two teams. Both sides struggled to cut out any clear chances in the first half, Gary Newman went close for Walsham side stepping Wooton but directed his subsequent shot wide of the open goal. Walsham had the ball in the net in the 27th minute but Musgrove mistimed his run and the offside was given.
The best of Harwich chances fell to Calver his deflected shot wrong footing Bugg, the ball spinning agonisingly close to the Walsham upright and just before the break Luke Jones firing from 20 yards brought a fine finger tip save again from the Walsham keeper.
Direct from the re-start Musgrove outpaced the Harwich defence and perfect cross
was met by Alan Ross, netting with his chest. Walsham defended manfully for long
periods as Harwich pursued the equaliser, even the attacking subs of Townes,
Morley and Meadows could do little to break down the resolute defence. The real
sucker punch for Harwich came with 3 minutes remaining, Newman found himself
unmarked in the Harwich box and was able to pick his spot past Wooton.
Taking nothing away from Walsham this was a disappointing display from Harwich,
never really threatened upfront they'll need to pick themselves up for next
weeks match against Ilford in the F.A. Cup
