HARWICH & PARKESTON 2
HISTON RES 1
27 October 2007

Languishing at the foot of the league, both teams would consider this to be a ‘must win’ match and with home advantage it was Harwich quickest out of the blocks.

Efforts from Underwood and Morley soon were asking questions of Lance Key in the Histon goal. It took only until the 13th minute for Harwich to make their pressure pay, Liam Morley striking a thunderous 25 yard shot that zipped through a gaggle of players and gave the outstretched Key little chance. The lead could have been furthered, Calver breaking out of defence, threaded a perfectly timed pass through to Underwood who struck his shot at the advancing Key.

Histon had few first-half opportunities, Tony Blandford reacting first to a long throw-in but headed his attempt straight at Wootten. Against the run of play and with the half drawing to a conclusion, Sam Murphy connected at the far post to a whipped in cross that left the Harwich back four flat footed and the net bulging.

Histon soaked up constant Harwich pressure second –half, Calvers’ snapshot in the 60th minute whistled over the bar followed by Scott Page launching himself at Chatters cross, but was unable to direct his shot on target.

Finally to the players and Harwich fans relief, Key managed only to parry a Jimmy Chatters shot into the path of the predatory Lee Underwood who guided his shot into the corner of the net.

In a tense final 15 minutes Blandford went close for Histon and a Gareth Jones curling free-kick drew a timely save from Wooten. For their troubles Calver, Morley and Jimmy Chatters all picked up yellows but the three points belong to Harwich.
