HARWICH & PARKESTON 2
CAPEL
PLOUGH 0
28th July 2007
Three pre-season friendlys, three wins, but as in mid-week against Melton St Audrys, Harwich were made to work hard for their victory by a well organised Capel Plough team. It was Capel that made the first real incursion on goal with a Julian Beaumont 6th minute strike that had newly signed Ed Wooton low down to his right.
Harwich grew in confidence, the midfield of Calver and Morley getting a hold on the game and in the 20th minute Nick Hunt in the Capel goal could do little to stop a point blank Calver shot, following a goalmouth scramble.
The young striking partnership of Sam Eldridge and Paul Coombs worked well and it was a Coombs header just before the interval that rattled the Capel bar. Shortly after the break Coombs again, left unmarked at the backpost had another headed attempt denied this time by a well placed Hunt. Eldridge went one better in the 55th minute extending Harwich’s lead finishing off a good move with a close range effort.
Capel came close to reducing the deficit with almost the last kick of the game, Beaumont’s accurate free-kick picked out Robbie Fuller and with only Wooton in goal to beat, blasted his effort over the bar from 10yards. On this evidence both teams look well set for the coming season.
