Long Melford U18s 0 Harwich U18s 1
Harwich opened their league campaign with a hard fought
victory over a resolute Long Melford side.
After a nervous opening ten minutes, Harwich took the lead with a clinical
finish from Warren after composed counter attacking play from defenders
Peacock and Knight.
Harwich went on to create five or six goal scoring opportunities, hitting the
woodwork twice, as they dominated the remainder of the half with expansive,
free flowing football. Hammett was a constant threat on the right, while Good
and Taylor controlled the midfield with strong running and intelligent
passing.
As the second half began it looked as if Harwich would rue their missed
opportunities as the home side bombarded the Harwich defence with a series of
long balls. However, the visitors rearguard withstood the pressure, helped by
keeper Harrison, who made a point blank reflex save in the dying minutes, to
secure all three points.
